How to choose the right payal for the way you live

Everyday or occasion, quiet or chiming, light or heavy — a simple way to find the pair you will actually wear.
A payal is worn closer to daily life than almost any other jewellery — on the stairs, in the kitchen, on the way to work. The right pair is the one that suits how you move.
1. Start with when you'll wear it
For every day, choose a light, close-fitting pair with few or no bells — see our daily wear payal. For festivals and family functions, a jhalar payal adds movement and sound. For a wedding, bridal and heavy designs carry the occasion.
2. Choose your silver
Our payal come in two hallmarked collections: RRPL80, hallmarked at 80% silver — strong, bright and easy on the budget — and RC92.5, hallmarked at 92.5% sterling silver for bridal wear and gifting.
3. Decide how much sound you want
More ghungroo means more chime. If you prefer something you can wear to the office, ask for a design with fewer bells.
A good pair should be heard when you walk, not when you sit.
4. Get the length right
Measure just above the ankle bone and add about half an inch, so the payal sits gently without sliding over your heel. Our size guide converts your measurement into a length.
5. Pick a finish
- High polish — bright and mirror-like; brings out fine bead work.
- Oxidised — darkened recesses for a vintage look; hides wear well.
- Antique — a soft, warm sheen between the two.
